Heating extends the pool season, and UV disinfection lowers the amount of chemicals needed. A heat pump takes its heat from the air, which is the most economical way to heat a pool. A cover makes any heating system far more effective.

Heating only works with a cover
The largest heat loss happens from the water surface overnight. If you heat an uncovered pool, a good part of that heat is gone by morning. So heating and a cover go together.
What UV does
A UV lamp deactivates micro-organisms that pass through it as the water circulates. That lowers the chemical disinfectant load, but does not replace it entirely, because the water in the pool still needs a disinfectant residual.
Common questions
Is a heat pump worth it?
If you want a longer season, yes, particularly together with a cover. Without a cover a good share of the heat is lost overnight.
Does UV remove the need for chlorine?
Not entirely. It lowers the amount, but the water still needs a disinfectant residual throughout its volume.
