A dark surface is not only taste
A dark surface makes the water read as deeper and mirrors the sky and the building during the day. At night it does something else: it brings the underwater light out, because the light is not lost in a white floor.
The trade-off is heat. A dark surface warms the water more in sun, which is an advantage in early summer and something to think through with the cover in August.
Lighting is planned before the concrete
Underwater lights for a concrete shell have a housing that is built in during construction, along with the cable conduit. Once the concrete is poured, the position does not change.
So on this job the number and position of the lights, the RGB module and the transformer were settled at the start, not at the end. The light comes from more than one side, so half the pool does not stay dark.
What the work involved
Like every concrete pool we build, this one went through the same steps: excavation, formwork, steel mesh, pipework, a single concrete pour, waterproofing, the surface, and then the filtration system.
