Why travertine around water
Travertine stays cool underfoot when other stone gets hot, and it does not turn slippery when wet. For a surface people cross barefoot between the water and the loungers, that is the practical reason ahead of the aesthetic one.
It asks for care: travertine is porous and needs sealing, particularly where treated water splashes onto it.
A cascade is not an accessory
A stainless cascade in a wall needs its own pipework and usually its own pump, because the flow it wants is not the flow the filtration wants. Tied straight into the existing system, either the cascade comes out weak or the filtration drops off.
So the decision about a cascade is made before the concrete: that is where the pipe runs inside the wall.
What the work involved
Like every concrete pool we build, this one went through the same steps: excavation, formwork, steel mesh, pipework, a single concrete pour, waterproofing, the surface, and then the filtration system.
